Register In-Person

• Visit the Board of Registrations and Elections located at 301 N. Main St. Anderson, SC 29621
• You can also register while receiving services at various agencies including the Department of Motor Vehicles.
  • State and federal laws, including the Motor Voter Act, dictate that the S.C. Department of Public Safety’s Division of Motor Vehicles must offer voter registration to all citizens. Other agencies also mandated to offer voter registration include military recruitment stations and various other federal and state offices.

Based on state and federal law, each eligible applicant is registered within the proper precinct and various single-member districts. After application is received at the Board of Registration and Elections, you will receive a voter registration certificate confirming that your voter registration application has been approved and processed. In order to vote, South Carolina law requires one must first register to vote at least 30 days prior to the election. To be eligible to register in South Carolina you MUST:

• be a United States citizen
• be at least eighteen years old on or before the next election

During the General Election year, 17-year olds who will be 18 years of age on or before the date of the General Election, may register to vote prior to his/her 18th birthday. They may also participate in the primary elections prior to the General Election once registered.

• be a resident of South Carolina in the county and precinct in which you are registering
• not be under a court order declaring you mentally incompetent
• not be confined in any public prison resulting from a conviction of a crime
• have never been convicted of a felony or offense against the election laws OR if previously convicted, have served the entire sentence, including probation or parole, or have received a pardon for the conviction.
